gustatory receptor neuron of the dorsal organ [FBbt_00100145]

Gustatory receptor neuron that has its cell body in the dorsal organ ganglion and innervates the dorsal organ on the surface of the larval head (Python and Stocker, 2002. Its axon projects via the antennal nerve (Python and Stocker, 2002. Two of these cells per dorsal organ express Gr2a and Gr28a (Kwon et al., 2011. Projections from at least some of these neurons innervate subesophageal ganglion area 3 (Colomb et al., 2007. (Kwon et al., 2011, Colomb et al., 2007, Scott et al., 2001, Python and Stocker, 2002)

DO has 11 sensory neurons in the base region (peripheral to the dome), which are mainly thought to be thermo-/mechano-sensory (Komarov and Sprecher, 2022 - FBrf0251522). The most likely two candidates for gustatory sensilla lack a terminal pore in the L1, so Richter et al. (2024) (doi:10.7554/eLife.91155.2) question whether the Gr2a/Gr28a neurons are gustatory.
